- “British thermal units (Btu)” means that quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water from 60 degrees Fahrenheit to 61 degrees Fahrenheit at a constant, absolute pressure of 14.7 pounds per square inch (29.92 inches of mercury).
